Pet of the week: Fonzy

September 13, 2013

fonzy

West Philly resident Katy and her husband Dave heard a meowing coming from under the hood of a car in the CVS parking lot. They flagged down a CVS employee and asked, “Do you know whose car this is; there’s a kitten stuck in the engine!” It turns out it was his car!

One hour and one random good Samaritan with a jack later, they pulled this little guy safely out of the engine block. Whew! Katy is holding little Fonzy, who looks like he’s not quite certain that he didn’t lose one of his 9 lives in that scary experience.

Fonzy is too young to be adopted just now, so he’ll be fostered by a Project MEOW volunteer until he is ready for all of his vet work. Then he will be available for adoption. If you want to adopt Fonzy, you can apply now by emailing: info@projectmeow.org.

Adopt-a-Dog: Sosa

September 7, 2013

Sosa after playingSosa is here and is waiting for you! This pretty girl is only around 6 months old, just a young pup looking for her forever home. She is a sweet and playful girl and loves to make friends with the staff and volunteers at Philadelphia’s animal control shelter, ACCT, where she is currently residing. Sosa is very playful and full of puppy energy and would love a home that would teach her basic obedience and take her for nice long walks. This puppy is struggling in her kennel at ACCT. All she wants is to learn, love, and live.

This is just one of the many wonderful dogs in urgent need of adoption, foster care, or rescue at ACCT Philly. You can stop down and meet them, and after filling out an application with shelter staff, interact with them 365 days a year at the shelter located at 111 W. Hunting Park Avenue in Philadelphia. Please check www.acctphilly.org for hours.

Come in and take home a forever friend today! To check the status of an animal, call 267-385-3800 or email: acctpetfinder@gmail.com.

Adopt Bubbles and Noah

August 31, 2013

ProjectMeowcats

Bubbles and Noah.

Bubbles the Calico and Noah the gentle white cat are best of friends. They’re currently being fostered through Project Meow, a West Philly cat rescue organization. Alas, due to all the cute kittens for adoption no one is interested in adopting two super cuddly adult kitties. If you’re looking for two great companions that won’t climb your drapes or total your lamps, please consider adopting these cats. To find out how to adopt this ready-made family, please email: projectmeowadoptions@gmail.com.

West Philly animal welfare group in desperate need of adoptive/foster homes for rescued cats

Spicethecat

Spice is looking for a new home.

Project Meow, a West Philly-based all-volunteer, no-kill animal welfare group, is appealing to West Philadelphians to adopt or foster their cats as they are currently at capacity. Project Meow is doing an important job in the neighborhoods through their TNR (trap-neuter-release) program for stray and feral cats and they also help lots of abandoned or lost West Philly cats and kittens find new homes. You may have seen some of Project Meow cats in the Baltimore Pet Shoppe window.

In this post, we are profiling two lovely cats that are looking for their forever or foster homes.

Spice is a beautiful cat who has been in foster care for almost two years, simply because, well, everyone seems to want kittens. He is mellow, friendly, child safe and loves other cats. Give him a ball to chase and a good petting and this wonderful Siamese mix is in heaven.

Nigel (see photo below) is a sweet big boy who has a microchip from several years ago, but sadly no one bothered to register it. After sitting outside patiently for months, he was brought inside. He’s made himself quite comfortable in his foster home, but he would very much like a home of his own.

For information on how to adopt, please email:  projectmeowadoptions@gmail.com

Nigel is begging you to adopt him.

Kittens fostered by AIDS Policy Project looking for homes

July 29, 2013

kittenswindowsill

We received this message from our reader Kate Krauss, who runs West Philly-based organization AIDS Policy Project:

“Four little kittens and their mother have appeared on our porch. Kittens probably were born in the basement of an empty house next door. They are very cute and we are allergic. We’ve taken them in and they are staying in a utility room until we find them new parents. Their mother and they are all very sweet and gentle–no bites, just a lot of confused looks and playing.”

If you’re interested in adopting any of the kittens, please email Kate at: katiephr@gmail.com or call 215-939-7852. You can also donate some money to help Kate and her colleagues take care of the kittens while they are looking for homes. Please go here for more info and to donate.

Adopt-a-Dog: Solo

July 26, 2013

SoloSolo is a 1-2 year-old male pit bull terrier mix, weighing about 36 lbs. He has had a rough start, being underweight and found tied to a tree. But his tagline should be “The past belongs in the past, and the present is a present.”

This gentle boy not only loves to cuddle, he walks like a gentleman on the leash and has no issues with other dogs. He can be a bit nervous in overwhelming environments, but in a quiet and gentle home, he will quickly open up and could potentially live with other dogs.

Due to his young age and former “life,” Solo’s coat looks crazy with a mix of browns. Once he is on a steady diet and less stressed, his coat should become a deep chocolate brown (a lovely contrast with those golden eyes!). Once comfortable, Solo enjoys curling up for a nap or giving sweet kisses to anyone willing to offer a belly rub. This boy has quickly won the hearts of many volunteers and shouldn’t have to spend another day in the shelter.

If you’re looking for an easy companion animal, Solo is your dog. Please come to ACCT and meet Solo. If you are not ready to commit to adopting Solo but would like to help, fostering him and helping him find his forever family is a wonderful way to save not only Solo’s life but also the life of the dog who gets to move into Solo’s kennel at the shelter.

The shelter is located at 111 W. Hunting Park Avenue in Philadelphia. Please check www.acctphilly.org for hours. Come in and take home a forever friend today! To check the status of an animal, call 267-385-3800 or email acctpetfinder@gmail.com.
