On Saturday, Oct. 5, WePAC is hosting the “West Philly Literacy Village” reading promise festival. Come to Saunders Park to participate in a day of FREE family literacy-based fun.

The West Philadelphia Reading Promise Festival will be like a good book — it will take child attendees on a fun journey of literacy. Each child will receive a passport upon entry and will be encouraged to visit at least 5 literacy program partner tables for activities. Children will receive a stamp/sticker for each activity they complete and will receive a special prize for their ‘travels’.

Our ‘stage’ will feature special activities throughout the day:

Run of Program: 12pm to 3pm

12:15pm – Opening remarks

12:30pm – author Monica Allison

1:00pm – author Thembi Palmer

1:30pm – The Alphabet Song/Right2Read

2:00pm – Charlotte Blake Alston interactive performance

2:30pm – author Tony Cruz

3:00pm – end of program

Partner Resource Tables will include literacy crafts, free books, on-the-spot library cards, COVID testing kits and health literacy materials as well as free food and a special sensory area for neurodiverse children, and others. All attendees will have the opportunity to enter their name into a $500 gift drawing.
