On Saturday, June 17, Arts Without Boundaries, LLC, and the Community of Compassion CDC will premiere its first musical theater production Lion King Junior! Elementary and middle school boys and girls (between the ages of 7-14) across the Philadelphia Tri-State Area will perform in the production on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Church of Christian Compassion, 6121 Cedar Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19143. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m.
The production culminates a five-month intensive musical theater program for Black elementary and middle-school boys and girls, one of the first technical musical theater programs for children in West Philadelphia. Trained and mentored by Philadelphia-based performing artists of color, who studied at Berklee College of Music and West Chester University, participants will perform a catalog of songs, scenes, and dances from The Lion King in front of family, friends, and community members.
