Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library
Add to calendarBorn and raised in Philadelphia, Lee Morgan became one of the biggest names in jazz before turning twenty and played on hundreds of records before his tragic death in 1972. His final hometown performance was on “the Strip” at the Aqua Lounge, located at 52nd and Chancellor Streets where a state historical marker commemorating the legendary trumpeter will be installed later this year (date TBA).
On the occasion of Lee Morgan’s 85th birthday, the Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library will host an afternoon of remembering. Come out and share your memories and photographs, hear stories about Lee Morgan and the Aqua Lounge, and celebrate West Philly’s rich cultural history.
Join us at this free community celebration co-hosted by All That Philly Jazz. Light refreshments will be served.
Location: Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library, 125 S 52nd St.
