An 82-year-old male driver crashed his car into Rite Aid pharmacy at 47th and Chestnut this afternoon, according to police. Luckily, neither the driver nor anyone in the building was injured. The building sustained some structural damage and was evacuated, police said. It’s not clear what caused the accident. When we arrived at the scene the car was gone, but here’s what the building looks like.

 
Several heavily damaged vehicles remained along the eastbound lane of the 4700 block of Spruce Street this afternoon after an early morning accident that sent a SEPTA bus careening out of control and into a row of parked cars.

A westbound Route 42 bus collided with an SUV that ran a red light at 47th and Spruce at about 4 a.m., according to 6ABC. The driver, who along with four others was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for “non-life threatening” injuries, lost control of the bus. The collision pushed the bus into a tree and nearby parked cars. About a dozen cars in all were damaged.

The accident is under investigation.

Two people, including a police officer, were hospitalized after a three-vehicle accident early Sunday morning near 49th and Baltimore.

CBS Philly is reporting that a police cruiser collided with two parked cars. A 26-year-old passenger in one car, a late-model BMW that remained at the scene this morning, was hospitalized along with an 18th District officer. Both were listed in stable condition this morning. The police car hit the BMW from rear as it was parked on the north side of Baltimore Avenue, pushing it into another vehicle.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

A 47-year-old woman was killed early this morning in a vehicle accident at the intersection of 51st and Locust streets, according to reports.

The accident occurred at about 2:15 a.m. and involved two cars. The unidentified woman was the passenger in a minivan that struck another car, an SUV. The male driver of the minivan and a man and a woman in the SUV were seriously injured in the accident, according to ABC News and The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The minivan reportedly struck the SUV first and the impact was so great that the SUV flipped on the roof of a third, parked car. Rescue crews had to pry open the vehicles to extract all the passengers.

Both cars reportedly ran stop signs at the 4-way-stop at 51st and Locust.

West Philly resident Lene and her fiancee, AJ, were victims in a hit-and-run accident at 2:30 a.m. Saturday night near 51st and Pine. Lene e-mailed us with this information:

Last night [Sat, May 29] at about 2:30 a.m., my fiancee heard a big crash outside. He ran
outside to find our car pushed up on the curb, my scooter, and his
motorcycle tipped over into another person’s car. Behind our car was the
bumper and headlight of a golden 2005 Buick Lacrosse. There was also a lot
of water as if the radiator was blown.

AJ and our neighbor a few doors down, who came running out after he heard
the crash, could see the car a few blocks down on 51st towards Market, it
had stalled and the driver was trying to get it started again. AJ called the
police, who told him to wait by the car. No police showed up in the 10
minute timeframe until the driver got the Buick going again. The car made a
left turn onto Market or Chestnut. AJ spent several hours combing the
streets looking for the car, as he expected that it would not get very far
in that condition, but he was not able to find the car.

A driver who smashed his SUV into a parked car before flipping it on 44th Street between Pine and Larchwood late Sunday afternoon told witnesses that he fell asleep behind the wheel. The unidentified driver was not injured in the crash.
