Cedar Park Neighbors’ Holiday Food Drive underway

Posted on 26 November 2018 by WestPhillyLocal.com

The annual Holiday Basket Drive organized by Cedar Park Neighbors is back. This year, CPN will be partnering again with local nonprofits and various places of worship to provide food baskets to neighbors in need during this holiday season.

Last year, the organization was able to reach over 150 local families – a great testament to the community’s willingness to help others.

Just like last year, a suggested donation for this year’s drive is $36. Support at this level will provide baskets to two families. Donations can be made on this page. For other ways to donate (including bulk items), please email Michelle Lewis (mlewis1071@gmail.com).  Continue Reading

Cedar Park Neighbors wants those bandit signs

Posted on 30 May 2018 by Mike Lyons

Cedar Park Neighbors is taking advantage of a city program to raise some money and get rid of those illegal slapdash signs posted on light poles, sidewalk trees and other public places offering cash for your house, your car or even your diabetic test strips.

The city is offering community groups 50 cents a sign during the “Illegal Signs Roundup” from June 1 through June 15.

Michael Froehlich, an attorney with Community Legal Services’ Homeownership and Consumer Rights unit and a Cedar Park resident, said the initiative particularly targets the signs of “real estate predators” offering to buy homes for cash.

“They rip off seniors and low-income families. Their illegal advertising litters and disrespects our communities,” he said in an e-mail. “For us, it’s a win-win-win: we protect homeowners from being tricked by these predators, we clean up our streets from these ugly advertisements, and we raise money to support our Friday night jazz series, scholarship program, and other community activities.”  Continue Reading

Apartment building proposal on 4800 block of Baltimore back before Cedar Park Zoning Committee tomorrow

A proposal for a 5-unit apartment building at 4829 Baltimore Ave. will be back in front of the Cedar Park Neighbors zoning committee on Tuesday, April 17. Last month the committee asked the developer to slim down the building so it would encroach less on adjacent buildings.

The owner has requested a variance for construction of the apartment building (see rendering) at the site currently zoned RSA-3, which would allow only a single-family structure on the long vacant lot.

The public is welcome to attend to the meeting, which will be held at Calvary Center (48th and Baltimore, entrance on Baltimore), beginning at 7 p.m., to see the revised plans and elevations for the proposed building and to voice your opinions on this proposal. If you cannot make this meeting and wish to comment, please contact Cedar Park Neighbors.
