The annual Holiday Basket Drive organized by Cedar Park Neighbors is back. This year, CPN will be partnering again with local nonprofits and various places of worship to provide food baskets to neighbors in need during this holiday season.
Last year, the organization was able to reach over 150 local families – a great testament to the community’s willingness to help others.

Mariposa Food Co-op is planning to directly support local community groups and organizations through a new initiative – Round-up for Change. The Co-op is currently accepting applications from Philly-area groups and organizations to receive funding/donations from this initiative, which is expected to launch in early September.
Through the program, the Co-op will donate the extra change when shoppers choose to “round-up” their purchase to the nearest dollar, at the register at their store at 49th and Baltimore. Continue Reading

We’re continuing to post information on how to help those in need during the holidays. Several holiday drives are currently underway, including the Cedar Park Holiday Food Drive, which we wrote about last week.

Socks for Homeless, Seniors, Students
State Rep. James Roebuck and community partners are collecting socks for seniors, homeless people and students in their annual “People for People” sock drive. New socks are being accepted through Dec. 16 at Roebuck’s office, 4712 Baltimore Ave., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and at the Squirrel Hill Sub-Police Station, 4619 Chester Ave., from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. Two local schools, Penn Alexander School and Independence Charter School West, are holding drives this week to help those in need after the recent devastating hurricanes, “Harvey,” “Irma,” and “Maria.”
Independence Charter School West, located at 5600 Chester Ave., is collecting first-aid items for the areas affected by the hurricanes. The following donations are being accepted through Friday, Sept. 29: bandages, anti-bacterial ointment, flash lights, batteries, soap, antiseptic and alcohol wipes; or any other item you believe will be of use for those affected by the recent natural disasters.
Donations can also be dropped off at Independence Charter School in Center City (1600 Lombard St.). Continue Reading
