Registration is open for the fall session of All Around This World, the kids music program based on international songs, movement and drumming.

The program’s director, Jay Sand, is a well-known West Philly musician and music teacher. Three times a year – in the fall, winter and spring – he offers interactive weekly music classes “All Around This World” for infants to 8-year-olds and their families. Each class is dedicated to a particular region of the world and music from that region.

The fall session begins right after Labor Day, on September 7. The West Philly classes (classes are also offered in Fairmount Park and Center City) are going to explore West Asia and the Middle East. Classes take place near 44th and Pine on Wednesdays and Saturday mornings (check the full schedule here). There is also a special class for babies only at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Discounts, scholarships, free trial classes and sliding scale tuition plans are available.

Kids ages 5-11 are invited to register for the Fall season of Clark Park Youth Soccer League (CPYSL). The registration is open until Tuesday, September 6, and all the necessary forms can be downloaded here. The Fall season begins Saturday, September 24, and ends Saturday, November 19.

The league is also looking for sponsors, local people and businesses alike, to support their program. In exchange your logo will be appear on T-shirts, website and newsletter. The cost is $160/year (two seasons of soccer).

Have you run out of ideas yet on how to entertain your kids this summer? Here’s a suggestion for you, something your little ones should enjoy. Penn Museum (3260 South Street) is offering  Summer Wonder programs for children and families on Wednesday mornings (10:30-11:30 a.m.) through August 10.

The programs feature music, dancing and other fun activities by a variety of international performers and presenters. Some of the highlights are belly dancing for the whole family, listening to world music and the folk music of yesteryear, journeying to Uganda, and discovering science through experiments.

Muggles of all sorts will gather this week at the Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library (125 S. 52nd St.) for a Harry Potter movie extravaganza.

You can see the first seven movies in the series beginning Tuesday, July 12 at 1 p.m. with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2 hours, 32 minutes). Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2 hours and 41 minutes) will follow at 4 p.m.

This is a great way to beat that afternoon heat this week and catch up before the final installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, hits theaters on July 15. Call the library’s children’s department at 215-685-7424 for more information.

Here’s something our little neighbors and their parents will enjoy doing again now that the section “A” of Clark Park has reopened. A traditional “Storytime at the Turtle” has returned and is taking place every Thursday at 7 p.m.

Stories and short books are read by volunteers from the Parent Infant Center (PIC). Snacks and refreshments are also available. So head down with your little ones tomorrow night to the turtle for this fun and educational activity.
 

Two upcoming events at the Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library (125 S. 52nd St.) look super fun for kids.

Tonight kids will have a chance to read to two therapy dogs, Gus and Milo, a couple of cool West Philly hounds, at 6 p.m. in the library’s great children’s section. If you miss tonight’s reading, the calm, cool and collected corgi Dandie will be at the library on Saturday at 2 p.m.

And for something completely different, the Library will host a juggling workshop with David Smith – also known as the “One Man Side Show” – at 4 p.m. tomorrow. Smith’s juggling prowess got him an audition for America’s Got Talent and is an expert at leading hands-on workshops for the whole family.
