We just received information on this from police: A 68-year-old man was shot and critically wounded inside his residence on the 5100 block of Cedar Avenue on the morning of Dec. 2. The shooting was reported by a concerned neighbor who lives on the same block as the victim.
Police say that the man was in his row home on the morning of December 2 when someone knocked on the front door. The victim opened the inner door and began having a conversation with an unknown male who was on the other side of the security door. The victim was unable to open the security door because it was locked and his girlfriend had the key, according to police. Then the man fired two gunshots from outside through the security door. Police are searching for a man who they say shot and killed a 22-year-old man inside a convenience store in West Philadelphia’s Mantua neighborhood. The shooting happened on Tuesday shortly before 8:30 a.m. at J and R Perez Grocery at 38th and Aspen.
The suspect fired four shots at the victim, according to police, then got into a car and fled. The victim was taken to the hospital where he died 20 minutes later. Police say the victim was specifically targeted. There were several people inside the store when the shooting occurred, including a small child, according to police.
6ABC Action News spoke to the victim’s family and friends who identified him as Maurice McDonald. The investigation continues.

A 19-year-old man was shot and killed near 52nd and Locust in the latest of a series of violent incidents in that area in the past few weeks.
Police say the unidentified man was shot at about 2:50 p.m. on Sunday afternoon and was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where he died at about 3:30 p.m.
No arrests have been made and no weapon was recovered, police said.
Two men were shot during separate shootouts near the same intersection three weeks ago. No arrests were made in those shootings.

UPDATE: Police identified the victim as 50-year-old Tony Harris. Harris, who worked as an electronics repairman, recently posted on Facebook a photo of his wife holding bundles of cash that he claimed amounted to $60,000, according to reports. Police say it was done as a joke, but may have prompted the attempted robbery and shooting.
Police are looking for three suspects who shot in the head and killed a 50-year-old man, a married father of three young children, during a home invasion robbery near 54th and Warrington. Police say the home invasion took place shortly after 11 p.m. on Monday on the 1100 block of S. Ruby Street. The intruders, described as three teenagers wearing masks, entered the house through the unlocked front door. They found the man, his wife, ad three children ages 5, 2 and 10 months upstairs.
One of the men, armed with a black and silver handgun, took the woman to the kitchen where he put the gun to her head and demanded money, according to a police report. Then she heard another man yelling at her husband in the living room, asking: “Where’s the money?” She then heard a single gunshot. She found her husband lying on the floor suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The woman called police. Police say they found a shotgun on the front porch when they arrived. Continue Reading

Shootings on 5200 block of Irving
So far no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting incidents on the 5200 block of Irving St. that left two men seriously wounded. Police said that they have persons of interest but can’t arrest them because there are no witnesses, and the victims are not cooperating.
Gunpoint robberies on S. 50th Street
Police arrested two young men, both West Philly residents, in South Philadelphia on Thursday for a robbery similar to the robberies on S. 50th Street on Sept. 23. Another arrest was made earlier, and all the detained suspects are being looked at in relation to the robberies. In addition, the 18 Police District has assigned plainclothes and uniform cops to the area, which should “help slow things down” and already has, according to police. Continue Reading

More information is available on the recent shootings near 52nd and Spruce where two young men were shot and hospitalized.
On Thursday, Sept. 24, a 24-year-old man was shot in the upper left thigh in a shootout on the 5200 block of Irving Street, according to police. The shooting was reported shortly after 9 p.m. Multiple shots were fired in what police believe was an exchange of gunfire between two suspects, black males in early 20’s, who opened fire on the block and another unidentified person, who was shooting back at them. Twenty-two various caliber shell casings were found on the block, and two vehicles parked on the block were struck by stray bullets, according to a police report. The victim was taken to Presbyterian Hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition. Continue Reading
