Philadelphia spraygrounds to reopen this Saturday

Philadelphia’s free spraygrounds are expected to be reopened for the 2023 season on Saturday, May 27, according to an announcement by Parks & Rec. There are over 90 water-based play spaces in Philadelphia, many of them are spraygrounds or spray parks, but some sites include a single sprinkler, or spray jet.

During the season, which ends on Labor Day, spraygrounds will be open seven days a week, with the exception of bad weather days, at the following hours:

Weekdays: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Weekends: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Over 90 spraygrounds open in Philadelphia ahead of public pool season

With hot weather starting to set in in the area, Philadelphia Parks & Rec has opened spraygrounds around the city ahead of the summer public pool season which kicks off in mid- to late-June. The city has over 90 spraygrounds and sites with some water features, all of which are now open to keep residents cool, according to the Parks & Rec website.

Spraygrounds will stay open until Labor Day and will operate 7 days a week (with exceptions for inclement weather) with the following hours: 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday and 12-5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Public spraygrounds to open starting July 6

As an alternative to public pools, the city’s spraygrounds will be allowed to open this summer. Beginning Monday, July 6, 91 public spraygrounds will start to open in Philadelphia on a rolling basis. All spraygrounds will be staffed at all times to make sure that everyone is safe on-site. COVID-19 safety measures at spraygrounds include the following rules:

• Limited capacity based on sprayground size
• Social distancing of at least six feet

Public pools will remain closed this summer due to COVID-19.

2017 public pool season kicks off Thursday, June 22

Mayor Jim Kenney will officially kick off the 2017 Philadelphia public pool season Thursday afternoon at a dedication ceremony for a newly renovated playground at Murphy Recreation Center in South Philly. Over 70 indoor and outdoor pools will open in the city for the 2017 summer season, including dozens in West Philadelphia.

Citywide pool hours are Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday & Sunday, Noon to 5 p.m., but interested swimmers are advised to check in with their neighborhood pool for days and times of open swim, family swim and adult swim, as well as swim lessons and swim team activities.
