Suffragette’s grave at The Woodlands gets visitors on Election Day

Did you know that suffrage leader Mary Grew (1813-1896) is buried at the Woodlands cemetery (40th and Woodland)? According to the Woodlands staff, there have already been some visitors to the grave this morning. If you would like to visit the grave and pay respects but don’t know where it is, look for balloons to the east of the Hamilton Mansion (Photo courtesy of The Woodlands).

Election Day! Here are some things to keep in mind as you head to the polls

A reminder to vote posted near The Woodlands on Woodland Avenue.

In case you hadn’t heard, today is election day. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Registered voters who are in line at 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote. Check on your voter registration status here and find your polling place here.

Other than the presidency, the seats on this year’s ballot include (from the non-partisan Committee of Seventy):

• One of PA’s two seats in the U.S. Senate

• All 18 PA seats in the U.S. House of Representatives
James Roebuck (D) is running unopposed in the 188th District and Vanessa Lowery Brown (D) is running opposed in the 190th.  Continue Reading

Hillary Clinton visits Cedar Park Cafe

Hillary Clinton campaigned in Philadelphia over the weekend and visited West Philly’s Cedar Park neighborhood on Sunday afternoon. She stopped by Cedar Park Cafe on the 4900 block of Baltimore Avenue and talked to customers and residents who gathered outside the cafe.

Don’t throw away that TransPass! SEPTA offers credit for pre-strike passes

If you purchased a SEPTA TransPass and could not use it due to the recent SEPTA transit strike, don’t throw it away. SEPTA is offering a credit voucher for unused Weekly or Monthly TransPasses (passes not punched in the validation block) that will be good towards the purchase of another SEPTA fare product. SEPTA customers may bring the unused TransPass product to any Pass Sales location – SEPTA Sales Offices and Retail Outlets.

Requests for fare credits for unused TransPasses will be honored through January 31, 2017.

Weekly TransPass valid for travel October 31 – November 6, 2016

• Credit available beginning Wednesday, November 9, 2016

SEPTA strike ends; full service to be restored by Tuesday

This morning, SEPTA and TWU Local 234 have announced a tentative five-year contract that will bring 4,700-plus employees back to work and end a six-day strike that shut down the City Transit Division.

Service will be phased back in today on the Market-Frankford Line, Broad Street Line subway, city buses and trolleys, with full schedules restored by the start of the service day on Tuesday.

Limited service on the Market-Frankford Line has been restored starting at 9 a.m. today. Limited bus and trolley service is expected to resume later today:
