Today’s issue of the Philadelphia Inquirer details the situation around Penn Alexander school. As reported earlier by Westphillylocal, the school may not be able to provide spots for new students in lower grades because of overcrowding.
According to the Inquirer article, the school’s partnership with Penn was renewed for another 10 years last week.
If you are still around after the Rapture on Saturday, you should check in with acclaimed illustrator G.B. Tran, who will be talking about his amazing graphic family memoir VIETNAMERICA at Locust Moon Comics (4040 Locust St.) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
A chronicle of Tran’s family’s journey from Vietnam to the United States during the war, VIETNAMERICA has been three years in the making.
The Library Journal writes of the book:
“This will be called the MAUS for the Vietnam War, and for good reason. Similar premise: clueless American-born son of immigrants confronts the legacy of family pain predating his birth. Similar outcome: a kick-in- the-gut graphic novel… he purposely fragments the plot, shifting points of view, narrative voices, and settings while the reader—as did Tran—must assemble the pieces to learn how his parents became the people he knew.”
Here’s an interview on ABC News with Tran (sorry about the commercial):
Dog Found, 50th and Locust, 5/19 at about 9:30. She’s a tan pit bull-type dog, with white markings and a very friendly disposition — definitely NOT an aggressive dog. She was wearing a chain collar with a leash attached, but no tags.
We walked around the neighborhood for awhile but no one seemed to be out looking for her.
If you think you might know her or her owner, please contact me by email (khturner32 [at] gmail.com), or call 215-834-1034.
We have 4 cats in the house and definitely cannot keep her, so I’d like to find her owner as quickly as possible!
