Mommy & Me returns, plus Brand New Beginners classes at Wake Up Yoga

The Wake Up Yoga studio in West Philly (4916 Baltimore Ave.) is bringing back its Mommy & Me class beginning Wednesday, Nov. 2. This is a yoga class for new mothers who are welcome to bring their babies as they rebuild their strength and stamina. Mommy & Me includes some poses that can be practiced with the baby. The class will be taught by instructor Felicia Graham and will be offered on Wednesdays, 11:15 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.. Each class is $16 and you don’t have to register. Just drop in and enjoy. From November 10 until December 23 there will be an opportunity for beginners to learn some yoga basics, as the studio is offering a six-week Brand New Beginners series. The series consists of eight classes with the focus on breath and movement. This series will be taught by Monica Kriso and meet on Thursday evenings, 7:45 p.m. – 9:15 p.m. (no meeting on Thanksgiving). The cost for the series is $81 and pre-registration is required. New kids’ yoga class in West Philly. Free trial Monday

Studio 34 logoStudio 34 (4522 Baltimore Ave.) is presenting a new yoga class series for children ages 4-12 beginning Oct. 17. Led by instructor Lily Cavanagh the six-week series will feature breathing exercises, games, poses and relaxation. Younger kids will also be introduced to communication skills in a fun-filled environment. Older kids will learn how to maintain balance in both their minds and bodies and how to boost their self-esteem through engaging in group and partner activities.

Classes are once a week, on Mondays, 3:45-4:30 (ages 4-6) and 4:45-5:30 (ages 7-12). The six-week series costs $60 and there will be a free trial class on Monday, Oct. 10. For more information and to enroll go here.

Fundraising yoga class in Clark Park July 30

Yoga teacher Emily Wishnick is organizing a donation Vinyasa Yoga class on Saturday, July 30, from 10-11:30 a.m. in Clark Park (near the playground). Local instructor offers summer evening yoga classes

A West Philly-based yoga instructor Fatima Adamu is offering summer evening yoga classes now until July 27 at her home studio located at 4705 Baltimore Avenue, 3rd Floor.

Classes will be composed of a focus on alignment, pranayama (breath exercises) and on increasing overall body strength while cultivating a spirit of playfulness, self-acceptance and self-lovin’.

You need to bring: a yoga mat and a water bottle.

Rates are: $10 per class; 3 classes for $25; 4 classes for $30.

Yoga celeb coming to Studio 34 this weekend

yogaAna T. Forrest is a yoga superstar. She has been helping people fix body, mind and spirit through yoga for almost 40 years. Developer of Forrest Yoga, an approach that borrows from the East but is aimed at a “Western lifestyle,” has become a standard class in studios around the world. This weekend she will be in West Philly.

Forrest, who has used yoga to overcome much trauma in her won life, will conduct workshops Friday through Sunday at Studio 34 (4522 Baltimore Ave.).  Following workshops on Saturday and Sunday, Forrest will read from her new book, Fierce Medicine, and take questions. The book is available at Bindlestiff Books (4530 Baltimore Ave.), which will also have copies at the readings.

 

Here is the workshop schedule:

Friday: 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m and 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (reading to follow)
Sunday: 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (reading to follow)
